Jasper

We went to Jasper for our anniversary. It was so beautiful and we got some much needed R&R. We stayed in a little bungalow on Patricia lake. I highly reccommend staying at Patricia Lake Bungalows if you ever head to Jasper, but book early, they were full every night. The scenery there is so breathtaking. We went hiking, white water rafting, ate a fancy meal at the Fairmont Jasper hotel, and did some canoeing on the lake. It was perfect, and best of all, we still have 5 days off.

THANK YOU to Jacqueline for babysitting the boys while we were gone!!! We really appreciate it.

No longer Newlyweds

We did it! We had an incredible first year of marriage and even survived renovating!!!!I really have been amazed at how much of a handyman Brent is. Plus, he makes me laugh constantly through what a lot of people would find a very stressful time. I really am a lucky girl.

We are off on a surprise trip this weekend for our 1st anniversary. I'm taking Brent somewhere for the week. I'd post where, but he might check the blog and it would spoil the surprise. All I'll say is that it is somewhere he has never been before.

Picture Post

Here are the most recent house photos. Please excuse the clutter, we can't put everything away until the cabinets get done. But, you get the jist! I find it hard to take good pictures with all of those windows.

Life at the Lake

Right before our wedding last summer, Brent and I put a deposit on a lake lot down at Lake McGregor. It is about an hour and a half SE of Calgary in the county of Vulcan. We ended up buying the lot, and haven't been there since! Brent's sister and her husband bought the lot next door to us. We are probably going to be building in 2009, so I'll have more blogging material!

We took a drive out today to see the changes. We took the dogs swimming in the lake, and chatted with some of our neighbors. The water was nice and warm. It was a lot of fun.

Our lot (and the new wheels for scale!)

We have a lake view:

The neighbor 2 doors down from us moved an old house from the Currie Barracks onto his lot. They chopped it in half and added a vaulted ceiling and big windows over looking the lake. We thought that was a pretty neat idea:

Another cottage:

The realtor that sells the lots has built a place out on the point. It has this massive retaining wall that a lot of people are mad about:

It's super dry there, but it looks like things can grow there. This is a picture of the area around the clubhouse (which has an outdoor pool, hot tub, meeting rooms and a games room):

The boys were conked out from all of the swimming:

On Hold

Well, the kitchen was supposed to get finished on Monday. I got a call at about 8:30 am that day, and the scheduler at Merit called, saying that the installers had quit that morning! Now, who knows when it will get done. I guess they only have one other guy and he's on vacation. So...we wait.

Also, our contrator, Russell, is MIA. He had to go to Grande Prarie for a family emergency about a week and a half ago, and I haven't heard from him since. He has tools here still, so hopefully he is coming back. I don't want to bug him because of the circumstances, but I did call his cell phone once and it said 'the customer is unavailable'. Hmmm.

I was waiting to post pics until the kitchen and door were hung. Maybe i'll just bite the bullet and post them anyway.

I started my new job last week. It's going ok. I hate being the new person at work!

CONGRATS to Kristina and Mike on the birth of their 1st baby, Lily! Can't wait to meet her.
