2 days until possession

Wow, this month has gone by quickly. I can't believe we get the house on Thursday. This Saturday is Burdine's stagette and Brian's stag party. Brent is hosting part of Brent's stag at the new house on Sat night. 25 men and a keg of beer...It might not be the best first impression of us for our new neighbours.

Happy Chinese New Year

We are going to a special Chinese New Year dinner tonight with Jim and Margaret. They go to their favorite Chinese Restaraunt Toi Shan for the Chinese New Year dinner every year. The last time we were there the Mayor was eating there. So, it must be pretty good! 2007 is the year of the pig. Those born in pig years tend to have excellent manners, make and keep friends, work very hard, and appreciate luxury. They are very loving and make loyal partners.

The hardwood flooring installation seminar was today. We learned a tonne! The guy doing the seminar seemed very knowledgable. He even knew the exact layout of our house. He said we probably have to remove the existing subfloor and install new subfloor, which we were not expecting. We decided to install it ourselves. He made it sound pretty easy, as long as you have the right tools.

We also purchased some new appliances. The kitchen designer will need the dimensions to be able to design the new kitchen. We still have to figure out what kind of stove/cook top to get. But these are the new choices so far:

We're moving!

Well, we did it. Brent and I sold the townhouse and bought a house. Just when we finally finished this place, we are outta here. I must say, Brent and I both learned A LOT about renovating, and this was a great learning experience. I am very impressed at how handy he is! Part of me is a little bit sad to see this place go, it was my first home and was perfect for me. But, we are full to the brim here and Brent is itching to do some serious landscaping.

The new house is in Lake Bonavista and it's a bungalow (yay, no stairs) with 4 bedrrooms on the main floor. I think I"ll use one as my office. It pretty much needs work in every single room, a task that probably would have scared us off if we had not renovated the townhouse. We get possession March 1st and loose the townhouse March 30th. So we have a whole month to get some work started before we move in. I'm looking forward to making it our own.

We have big plans for this place. Starting with the kitchen. We have decided to use Merit Kitchens (http://www.merit-kitchens.com/) for the kitchen design and cabinets. We plan on doing the demolition ourselves. I have hired a designer (www.premisedesign.ca) to help me choose paint colors and room layouts. They are both coming the first two days we have the house to get the ball rolling. We bought hardwood floors for the main floor and have to say THANK YOU JIM, for helping move all that wood! We are going to a hardwood installation seminar tomorrow to learn how to install it. If it looks easy enough, we'll attempt to do it ourselves.

This blog will follow our house renovation, since lots of people have commented to me that they would like to see the transformation!

So, without further adieu...the new pad. (These are the pic's from the MLS listing) There must be something about a house with pink carpet and wood paneling that draws me to it. The townhouse had that too.

Outside

Kitchen - huge window to the back yard! That is about the only thing that will be staying the same.

Basement - gotta love the wood paneling. There are 2 bedrooms and a workshop down there too.
